Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) is often an unpleasant condition. If there is no physical disease causing the increased sweating, we have reliable methods at our disposal to help those affected regain a better quality of life.
We offer the following treatment options for localised forms of hyperhidrosis:
- Topical therapies
- Tap water iontophoresis for excessive sweating of the hands and feet
- Botulinum toxin injections
The use of botulinum toxin is an excellent treatment option, especially for increased sweating in the armpits. After local anaesthesia with a cream, botulinum toxin is injected into the skin with a fine needle. This blocks the signal transmission between the autonomic nervous system, which controls sweating, and the sweat glands. The effect begins after about 4 days and usually lasts for about 6 months. When the botulinum toxin is broken down, sweating slowly increases again. The treatment can be repeated regularly. Supplementary health insurance often covers part of the treatment costs.
In the case of generalised hyperhidrosis, systemic therapy with tablets can also be useful in some cases once underlying diseases have been ruled out.
