Spider Veins

Spider veins are small but clearly visible bluish or reddish veins directly beneath the surface of the skin. They occur mainly on the legs and are often perceived as cosmetically very bothersome. Spider veins and smaller, so-called reticular varicose veins can be treated with sclerotherapy, in which a sclerosing agent is injected into the veins, closing the vessel lumen. Depending on the number of veins, one or more sessions are required.

We use the following methods:

  • Sclerotherapy of spider veins with Aethoxysklerol
  • Laser therapy of fine reddish spider veins
  • Foam sclerotherapy of smaller varicose veins

Although spider veins are a purely cosmetic problem, they can often appear as a sign of an underlying venous disease, i.e. varicose veins. An ultrasound examination of the superficial and deep venous system of the legs (colour-coded duplex sonography) should therefore be carried out for an exact diagnosis.
